Bag Day! It’s the most stressful day of the year for the Robotics team at Southport High School. Not even finals week or the SAT can compare. But, in all this excitement, how does the team stick together? Running a team, making a robot, and hopefully putting on the final touches are only a fraction of what happens on Bag Day. Now, Bag Day is the last day that the team can touch the robot until they get ready for a demo or a competition, so it’s pretty hectic; the workshop is constantly busy, electrical is working non-stop, and almost everything is a mess. But despite all the craziness, the team pulls through and keeps it together.
According to Rachel Clouse, everything is really stressful. “It’s a mess for sure. You name it, and it’s probably out.” Meetings on Bag Day can go to 11:30 at night! Every person there is working hard, but having fun; that’s what makes the robotics team a family. They stick together, pick each other up, and learn while having the best year, or years, of their lives.
