WELCOME TO YOUR FUTURE!

We are excited to share the diverse range of courses offered in our high school Engineering and Computer Science pathways. Students can choose one of our pathways: Engineering or Computer Science. The Engineering pathway offers dual credit  courses through Ivy Tech. Students can also earn a certificate for competing courses. Our curriculum begins with Introduction to Engineering, providing students with a foundational understanding of engineering principles. In our Principles of Engineering course student's explore how modern engineers help improve the world through diverse engineering fields, such as product design, mechanical design, infrastructure, and sustainability. Students learn and use some of the cutting edge tools engineers use in robotics, 3D modeling, programming, and prototyping. In Civil Engineering, students delve deeper into specific fields, exploring the design and construction of infrastructure. For those interested in the skies, Aerospace Engineering covers the fundamentals of aircraft and spacecraft design. The innovative Computer Integrated Manufacturing course integrates technology with manufacturing processes. For more information about the curriculum, you can visit the Project Lead the Way website.

In the realm of computer science, students start with Introduction to Computer Science. Then, they progress through a series of courses which covers essential programming and computational thinking skills as well as critical aspects of protecting information in the digital age. Throughout these courses students earn college credit through Indiana University. For more information about the Computer Science courses see the infographic below. Finally, the Capstone course allows students to apply their knowledge in a comprehensive project, demonstrating their proficiency and creativity. These pathways equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for future success in engineering and technology fields.

THE
NIGHT OF ENGINEERING

20220519_101128_HDR

All year long, Southport Engineering and Computer Science students work diligently on projects for their Night of Engineering presentations. This event offers SHS Engineering students a platform to present their research in a professional environment, make valuable contacts, and receive constructive feedback. Competing for the audience’s attention, students will strive to capture interest and communicate their message quickly and succinctly.

A successful presentation encourages the audience to stop, discuss the students' work, and review detailed handouts prepared by the students. Each course has unique requirements for the evening, showcasing a variety of skills and knowledge.

We warmly invite all community and family members to attend.

Please bring your family, friends, and colleagues to this wonderful FREE event. The SHS Culinary Arts program will prepare hors d'oeuvres, the SHS FIRST Robotics Team will demonstrate the future vertical articulation of their program, and the Mini-Movers club will explain the future of their program.

We hope to see you there!
